Music Video Premiere: L.A. Punk Icons The Flesh Eaters Offer A “Ghost Cave Lament”

We’re so excited for the opportunity to premiere the new music video for “Ghost Cave Lament” from legendary L.A. punk icons The Flesh Eaters. On their new album I Used to Be Pretty, (out now on Yep Roc Records), Flesh Eaters frontman Chris D. reunited the most notable iteration of the band that features many of the ’80s L.A. punk scene’s most influential figures, including John Doe and DJ Bonebrake (both from X), Dave Alvin and Bill Bateman (both from The Blasters), and Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, The Plugz). This version of the band was originally heard on their 1981 album A Minute To Pray, A Second to Die and were only able to play a small batch of live shows before their other band commitments won out.

After the “all-star” line-up played a couple of scattered reunion shows in 2006, 2015, and 2018, they decided to reconvene in the studio to record another album. The long-awaited result is I Used To Be Pretty, an 11-song collection of inspired originals, reimagined classics, and three innovative noir-punk covers. The album’s crowning moment is its closing track called “Ghost Cave Lament,” a mesmerizing 13-minutes-plus homage to flamenco guitarist Manitas de Plata’s piece “Moritas Moras.”

To help highlight the cinematic scope of “Ghost Cave Lament,” The Flesh Eaters made a music video for it and are premiering it with us today. Paired down from its extended album runtime to just under seven minutes, the slow burn music video blends together eerily augmented still photography, flickering b-movie clips, footage of Chris D. strolling through some austere L.A. scenery, and even a few select cameos from the other band members. Take an unsettling trip through the “Ghost Cave Lament” music video and don’t forget to check out the 3-song sampler from The Flesh Eaters on our site today!
